Welcome!

I am a native of Spartanburg, SC. Having lived in the city most of my life, I understand the city and its challenges. Also I have a great respect for its rich heritage and wish to make Spartanburg the “go to” city in the state for businesses and tourists. After earning two masters degrees out of state, I have returned to my beloved city of Spartanburg and am ready to go to work as Mayor putting my wealth of experience and knowledge to work for the good people of Spartanburg .

 

My promise to you as Mayor is that I will:

 

• Work to attract more businesses to the downtown area and promote economic development

• Continue to work on the downtown revitalization plan for the city

• Work with public safety to ensure a safe city environment for downtown business owners, patrons, residents, and visitors

• Work with developers and private industry to develop strategies to improve the inner city housing needs

• Work with the various agencies to identify critical need areas in education and services for our children. Help to form strategies for meeting those needs

• Look for ways to decrease government expansion and eliminate duplicate services with the goal of ultimately reducing the annual budget

• Keep an open door policy to hear the needs of the citizens and work for solutions as together we make Spartanburg the greatest city in the state.

Additionally, I welcome USC’s George Dean Johnson School of Business to downtown Spartanburg . We have the potential to create one of the most vibrant and successful downtowns in the state. I will to work hard to help bring additional businesses to the area to support the students and faculty of USC and our other colleges in the downtown area.

 

I support education and believe that we need an educated workforce. I volunteer as a basic literacy tutor for the Adult Learning Center in Spartanburg . Many of the students go on to earn college degrees. I believe that well educated and properly trained citizens will attract good jobs to our area and result in better economic conditions for our citizens.

 

I look forward to the opportunity to serve you as Mayor of Spartanburg, South Carolina. I am proud to call Spartanburg home. We are a city of harmony and hope represented by many colors and different cultures in one city. What a great place to live!
