Date: 17 October 2008 - For Immediate Release
Donna Hicks
sponsored a Fun Shoot Friday (Oct 17) at the Spartanburg Gun Club with other candidates
and elected officials attending (Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, Secretary of State Mark
Hammond, Shane Martin for Senate 13, Derham Cole for House 32, Joey Millwood for
House 38, Rusty Clevenger for Coroner, Spartanburg GOP Chairman Rick Beltram, and
a surrogate for Steve Parker for House 37).
Donna Hicks
took this opportunity to announce her withdrawal from the County Council District
One race and she further announced she has filed with State Ethics as a candidate
for Mayor of the City of Spartanburg (2009 election).
A few months
ago Hicks visited the Spartanburg GOP Headquarters to discuss the possibility of
running for County Council District One with Rick Beltram. Having recently moved,
she questioned whether she was in the district or not.
Beltram looked at a map and said she was. Hicks realizes this was an honest
mistake on the part of Beltram and when she found out for herself she was just outside
the district, she began looking for new place to live.
Donna Hicks
has a strong desire to serve her community and this is demonstrated through her
volunteer work as a basic literacy tutor at the adult learning center and volunteering
at St. Mathew's Episcopal Church teaching English as a second language to students
from
"It's really difficult anytime you feel like you're going to disappoint someone," stated Hicks, "I've received so much support and didn't want to let anyone down, but at the same time, I felt withdrawing was the right thing to do."
